So I've seen some news articles where it says that a report claims that this global warming pretty much has it in for Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Here's the link to the article: Report: Great Barrier Reef coral doomed - Environment - MSNBC.com

Mind you, the article came out four years ago, so things may have changed. But is the GBR still pretty much a sitting duck against global warming? Or will it survive somehow? Because the article claims that it won't or can't. Please explain if it's doomed or just a natural phenomenon.

Yes!, The general consesus is that the reef is really in big trouble!, Global Warming is "Bleaching" the coral and causing it to die off, Which also affects the marine life that depnds on the coral.

Other concerns include - Toxic runoff!, Which affects coral by making the ocean more acidic and the possibly of a pathogenic infection, Being introduced into the area?

Really, All they're able to do is monitor things closely and try to lower the impact on the reef? (Fishing is already banned!)

I saw it a couple years ago and was very unimpressed. Too bad I didn't go 20 years ago.

I thought 99% of the Great Barrier Reef was off limits to the general population. If that's so then how can you say it's deteriorating?

Just because it's off limits to the general public doesn't mean that CO2 is off limits. It can go wherever it wants, that's how gas is. It travels.

So basically, it looks like the reef's doom is pretty much sealed, right?

Isn't something happening to everybody, everything 24/7. Nothing stands still or stays the same for very long. It's how the world works.

The planet changes all by itself, it has been happening since before any of us were born and will continue to happen after we are gone.
