(Besides Internet slang.)

I don't remember anyone saying "it is what it is" in real life but I see it all the time on message boards on the Internet (and not just this one.)

People don't use the word "tweet" as much in real life as they do on the internet.

That's more of a business expression.

It's said around where I live all the time. The local craft stores even have cute little signs with "it is what it is" on them. Must be a rural thing

Hm, well I overhear a lot of internet slang in real life now, like 'lol' and 'rofl' and 'brb'

If I wasn't an internet user myself I'd think 'kids these days' have their own new language

Anecdote: I read an anecdote that someone's mother thought that LOL meant "lots of love" and sent out an email to the family that 'Grandma died this morning, LOL'

But no one actually *says* 'laughing out loud' in real life

I was bitsching about something at work one day and I said "TFB". It was interesting to see who laughed and who looked puzzled.

But didn't we used to, before "LOL" became so frequently used with texting and the Internet? Laughing out loud usually meant something was funny enough to actually laugh out loud, as opposed to simply thinking to oneself that something was humorous.

LOL seems to have a whole different connotation than LMAO.

I thought about that too, and didn't people actually laugh out loud, not say 'laughing out loud'

So the emoticons that were intended to represent the non-verbal are replacing (or enhancing?) the original expression

I wonder how many times a person exclaims "LOL" instead of actually laughing nowadays?

we need a lightbulb smilie!
