We are planning a trip to Mt Rusthmore next spring and would love to combine it with some casino activity. Our daughter and her husband will be joining us. Hubby and daughters hubby love the horse races and betting. When I check states with off track betting Wy comes up and they list 4 places that have this. but when I check those places it seems there is no gambling or betting at any of them. CAn someone clarify this for us, tell us if Wy does have casinos and how close they might be to Mt Rushmore?

Thanks in advance.

thanks, this is just what I am afraid of. I think the same thing with casinos in ND. it is way too far from Mt. Rushmore. We will just have to see what we can find out and go from there. I am a little disappointed but life isn't always what we hoped and the world will not come to an end if we have to adjust our plans some.

If you are going to Mt. Rushmore, you'll be heading to the Black Hills area of SOUTH Dakota, near Rapid City.

There are 90 casino's listed in the Rapid City area.

I've never been to any of them, so I can't comment as to what they offer for your entertainment. But with that many there, it strikes me that they must have a substantial business.

Gillette has one or two of them. Off track betting is kind of a new thing here. We had one for awhile years ago, then none until this year. I know where one is (block west of the westside McDonalds) and I think I read that there was another one but not sure. Deadwood, SD has a lot of casinos (special allowance by SD), but I don't visit them enough to know if there's off-track betting there or not.

I think the guy that owns the one in west Gillette has a couple others somewhere in Wyoming, but I can't recall where. Gillette would be the closest in Wyoming from Mt Rushmore. I'm thinking the other two might be Casper and Rock Springs or Evanston. Again, I'm not sure. I read it in the local paper when it was proposed for Gillette, and that's probably been close to a year ago.

I don't believe Wyoming allow casinos other than those on Indian Reservations, the one near Riverton being only one I've heard of.

I'd bet all 90 of those in Rapid City just have the little one-armed bandits where you can play black jack or poker. Payout is pretty poor. They're all over South Dakota. But Deadwood has become a little Reno with full service casinos all over town. (That's unfortunate, in my opinion, but there are plenty who would disagree.)
