I am an adopted person. My family is from Cumberland (a mining town) that is no more. I would love to hear from someone who lives near the area. My Grandfather was born in Cumberland and went into the mines at the age of 10. He moved my mom and my grandmother out of WY in the 30's.

Thanks.

I've been through it a few times driving between Evanston and Kemmerer. As you will see from the appended links, there's virtually nothing left. The mines started to play out in the mid twenties. Everybody was gone by 1935.

I would suggest you search the Wyoming Newspapers site:

Wyoming Newspapers

The website above contains 1922 and earlier digitized papers from around the state, hopefully there will be some articles about Cumberland and/or the mines.

You can also contact the State Archives as they may have photos or other related items to Cumberland:

Another possible source is the Star Valley Historical Society:

Thank you. I was able to find my grandmother's name in the newspaper for being top of her class in the first grade.
