“Effective immediately, all entrances to Yellowstone National Park are temporarily CLOSED due to substantial flooding, rockslides and mudslides on roadways from recent unprecedented amounts of rainfall and flooding.
Effective immediately, no inbound visitor traffic will be allowed into the park until conditions stabilize and the park can assess damage to roads and bridges and other facilities. This includes visitors with lodging and camping reservations.”

Employees in government housing are also being evacuated in Mammoth and other northern areas.

Been watching videos all morning of Red Lodge floods, park flooding/road washouts/mud and rock slides. Pahaska Teepee a few miles from the east gate is closed after water breached the ****. Good number of campgrounds on the Northfork heading towards the east gate are either fully or partially closed due to flooding. Bridges have been washed away near the NE gate. And on and on. Helluva mess. Much of the park will be closed long term I believe. At least one outfitter I know here in Cody has one of their staff stranded in the park. Park County is under flood advisory as the melt-off all works its way down to us. Hoping for safety for everyone first and foremost.

As mentioned in another post above it looks like the northern loop will be closed for a “substantial amount of time.”

Latest update from the superintendent of the park at 1:16 pm:

“The community of Gardiner is currently isolated, and we are working with the county and State of Montana to provide necessary support to residents, who are currently without water and power in some areas. Due to predictions of higher flood levels in areas of the park’s southern loop, in addition to concerns with water and wastewater systems, we will begin to move visitors in the southern loop out of the park later today in coordination with our in-park business partners. We will not know timing of the park’s reopening until flood waters subside and we're able to assess the damage throughout the park. It is likely that the northern loop will be closed for a substantial amount of time.” https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/news/220613.htm

The park is expecting snow and showers for tonight into tomorrow.

There is concern there may be people stranded in the back country. Praying for all.

Yeah, it is the quick snowmelt. Wind River has been well up for most of the last week but not to the degree of flooding, so not like out of the east and north entrances of YNP, so it sounds. We're in a campground by the river and have been keeping an eye on it.

I remember in August 2007, we stayed at Yellowstone Valley Inn. Ran into some very heavy rain, just before getting to the Inn and had to pull off of the highway for a few minutes. The rain finally let up and we headed to the Inn. While at the Inn, arranged for a private van tour to pick us up at the Inn the next morning. Due to a landslide on the highway, that luckily was cleared by morning, we were able to take the tour.

After our private van tour, we left the Inn and decided to stay in Cody a couple of more days. Took our own vehicle into Yellowstone this time and went to where the big waterfall was. A part of YNP still had a wildfire going, but we could only see some smoke. However, did pass by tents set up for firefighters.

So, we were able to see both the Upper and Lower areas of Yellowstone. One incredible, wonderful trip! Got lots of pictures and video. Buffalo, deer, fox, the big waterfall and much more.
