Just posting my 2 cents since we're moving to Pinedale in the next couple of days. Its a very cute little town and I think it still holds its small farmtown appeal from what I have seen. Everyone that we have met is very nice. One thing I had to chime in with though since you mentioned you have a daughter is that the schools seem excellent. (my son will be starting kindergarten in the fall so this was very important to us). We are worried about the "jackson-type" feel though, we aren't REI poster children and may eventually buy out of town for that reason (like Big Piney or Boulder) but Pinedale is great because we can walk to everything we need for now. That is a huge benefit coming from commuter hell. But yes the prices of housing are enough to make me cringe. Wherever you go, my husband and I are of the opinion that Wyoming (he being a born and bred Wyomingite) is a great place to live and hope that it remains undiscovered as much as possible.
