Fort Mill is a great area to live in (it's a 5-10 min drive to any part of Rock Hill via Interstate). They have some of the best schools in SC and the area around Charlotte. Very family friendly and crime pretty non-existant.
I live in Fort Mill so here are my likes...
Low taxes, very friendly, close to everything (Mall - 10 min, Target - 5 min, 7 grocery stores - 5-10 min, Movie Theatre - 10 min), nice school district, future area expansion
As for dislikes, I can't think of anything at this point.
My thoughts on Greenville. It is a nice area. My parents recently retired there. I will say the negatives I see there since there are alot of positives... All shopping is centrally located so traffic is pretty bad around that area and it seems pretty shopped due to this. I have seen tons of trash along the road there. Also, you will find Charlotte pulls alot more of the arts than Greenville will (i.e. concerts, touring plays, etc). I haven't done extensive research on this but I think their schools are very hit and miss.
