Hello,

I was wondering if there are any other York County gas users who have noticed a change starting about 2/7/13. When I cook with my gas stove, I never before smelled anything from the flames. But since yesterday, it almost smells like kerosene. It's not a sulfur smell like what is added to natural gas. It doesn't seem to be a problem, I'm just curious about it. Also, I'm wondering if it's just me.

Edit: I also want to mention I don't think it's a leak. I do not smell it when it's off. Just when the stove is being used.

I have the same problem here in Milwaukee, WI on 7/20/14.
It smells so bad like kerosene or worse it made me so sick that I had to turn the dam gas off our stove!
What the hells going on? Cheaper natural gas from Mexico or what?

We replaced our natural gas pack & water heater with electric but stayed with our gas logs. We haven't used the logs since the December 2004 ice storm for any period of time. We would turn them on to check things out but over the years didn't need them.

This past winter when we had the snow, hubby turned on the logs. They were cut off outside where the valve is located. When he cut them on there was a fizzing/sizzling noise coming out from around the valve. He came in and turned the logs on and the odor was terrible. Daughter came in and questioned the bad smell in the house. So we turned the logs off and called YC Gas Company.

In the meantime outside the house the fizzing/sizzzling was still going on when hubby cut off the valve and it was smelling bad. The gas company said it wasn't their problem that we needed to call a heating contractor. They had no answer for why the terrible smell or what would happen if someone walking down the road where the valve was located threw a lit cigarette near the leaking gas.

A smell is added to natural gas so that you can tell when there is a leak. Call a contractor immediately, and don't use the gas again until you do.
