Okay, so we are in the Steele Creek area and we are deciding on crossing the state lines to buy/build next next year.
I know you pay 6% on your vehicle property tax but I what I want to know from those who don't mind answering is
1. when do you pay this amount? (is this a yearly fee)
2. what model/make/year is your car?
3. what does York county value this car at?
For example, my family member in Moncks Circle near Charleston was told that she might owe about $1000 on her new Benz and that seemed a little high to me...will she have to pay this every year?

Paid $235 in taxes - no renewal
The taxes are a yearly fee and are based on year, mileage, if you live in city limits, etc. We used to live in NC and moved to SC 6 years ago. We have seen the benefit of living in SC. Yes, you have to pay the tax yearly but you don't have to get inspections and gas is a lot cheaper here! Hope that helps!
I don't pay anything close to 6%. Fort Mill (outside of town limits, York County) my tax on a vehicle appraised at $4500 is $63. It will be more if you are in any incorporated area. It's not based on percentage, but other factors, such as mill rates, just like home property tax.

It's not the uninsured motorists so much in SC since to even get a license you have to have insurance. It's high DWI rate and high traffic accident rate and fatality unfortunately. Maybe inspections do make a difference?
But the responsible people who have insurance are required to have a uninsured policy therefore raising the cost of insurance on top of the DWI and accident rate. Also, unfortunately not everyone out there are lawful people. Case in point... in 2005 I was in an accident because this guy turned in front or really into me, totalling my car, then he decided to run. Luckily an angel of a witness jumped in his truck and followed him and got the license plate #. Turned out, the guy's drivers license was expired and of course... no insurance! How he still had a plate, I am not quite sure? Luckily, I had that little policy and my insurance took care of me, so I guess I can't complain too much.
So what does insurance ran - I know it varies on deductible, your age and driving record but can someone give me an idea of what I might expect to pay?
