Anybody have info about Chester, SC?
Hi- I saw a reasonably priced piece of land in Chester, SC. I am looking to buy land and build. I have no idea what Chester is like- what type of community is it? Just some general comments would be welcome but if anyone feels the need to give me the soup to nuts description, that would be great!
Thanks!

From what I gather Chester has been hit very hard by the economy with some of the highest unemployment in the two Carolinas. I also think that it is very rural.

Thanks! When you speak of the unemployment issue, do you think that translates to a lower class of people living there? I don't mean to sound snobby, but I made the mistake of buying a summer home in NH, and found out that the year-rounders just weren't my cup of tea, if you know what I mean.
Rural is fine- I am looking for some privacy anyway....

Chester, to my knowledge, is a long way from upscale.

Hmmm, hence the low price. I am thinking I may be happier looking at Rock Hill, or Fort Mill, perhaps.... I am hoping to get a small waterfront lot, and of course I want a bargain!!!! LOL

If you are thinking waterfront and Fort Mill type of living, then Chester is definitely NOT for you.

I know this is an older thread, but Chester gets a bad rep. If you want privacy, there are some parts of Chester which would be ideal. The Fort Lawn area is nice and there are waterfront homes and property there. It's closer to downtown Lancaster than downtown Chester, too. It's a small community with one stop light in town. If I could buy land and build a house right now, I'd probably look nearer to Richburg along Old Richburg Rd. It's close to I-77 and that means it's close to Rock Hill. I'd guess land can be had for a lot cheaper than in Rock Hill.
Not sure how the school system compares. I don't hear a lot of great things about either one. We lived in both Chester and Great Falls before our kids got to be school age, and the utilities, etc. were fine.
