Description: The Birmingham Museum of Art is the largest municipal art museum in the southeast, housing over 25,000 works of art from various periods and media. Through the generosity of local benefactors, the museum has amassed some impressive collections, such as the Dwight and Lucille Wedgwood Collection, the world’s largest outside of England. The museum’s permanent collections include works from around the globe and from various time periods. In addition to the museum’s permanent collection, the BMA also hosts a number of exhibitions at any given time. Past exhibitions have included the popular “Pompeii: Tales from an Eruption” and European Masters, among numerous others. And when the Da Vinci exhibit, “Leonardo Da Vinci: Drawings from the Biblioteca Reale in Turin,” ventured to North America, just two cities were honored to temporarily house the collection: San Francisco and Birmingham. Although the BMA’s permanent collections are always free and open to the public, the museum features many exclusive programs available only to members of the BMA.
