Description: Phoenix Baptist Hospital began as a small children’s hospital in 1963. As the Valley grew, the hospital expanded its focus to all-purpose care for patients of all ages. Since 2000 Phoenix Baptist has been owned by Vanguard Health Systems and is part of their Abrazo Healthy Care network of hospitals. Phoenix Baptist is a 219-bed facility that offers general medical and surgical services, an emergency room, an intensive-care and coronary-care unit, oncology services, a cardiology center, the Center for Arthritis and Joint Replacement, a mammography center, maternity services with labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum suites, and a perinatal department that can handle premature infants. Phoenix Baptist also houses a 6-bed hospice unit and provides home health care. In 2005 PBH opened the Sunnyslope Prenatal Care Clinic to provide care at significantly discounted cost. Later expansions have included a state-of-the-art emergency room with shorter waiting times and 27 private rooms with flat-screen TVs.
