Description: One of 27 parks in Santa Rosa, Howarth is the big one, a 152-acre retreat into the world of nature. There’s a 25-acre lake where families can rent canoes, rowboats, paddleboats, and sailboats and even take sailing lessons. Kids and parents can also fish for trout, bluegill, and bass throughout the year. In another part of the park, a simulated steam train follows a quarter-mile track over a bridge and through a tunnel. The latest addition to the park is the Land of Imagination, with an elaborate climbing structure, a frontier town, a Mexican rancho facade, and life-size animal sculptures. Bring a picnic and have a great day! The park is open 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in summer and 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in winter. Boat rentals (fishing is optional and subject to state regulations) and amusement rides are in operation 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday during summer and on weekends in spring and fall.
