Description: Outside of Charlie Brown, who will always be universally loved, the Redwood Empire Ice Arena may be the most appreciated gift cartoonist Charles Schulz (1922–2000) gave Sonoma County. Even if you don’t have time to lace up skates and take a spin around the arena, it’s fun to drive by for a quick look at the building and a visit to Snoopy’s Gift Shop nearby, which sells hundreds of items honoring the Peanuts gang. Schulz’s career started in Minnesota and ballooned to fame, with his work appearing in more than 1,800 newspapers in 65 countries worldwide. The arena offers a full range of skating, and many world champions have glided across the ice here. Open daily, but hours vary, with mornings reserved for special programs and classes. The cost is $9 for adults and teens and $7 for children younger than 12 (weekends); prices are slightly lower weekdays.
