1. Dutch Elm Golf Course

City: Arundel, ME
Category: Golf
Telephone: (207) 282-9850
Address: 5 Brimstone Rd.

Description: Perhaps the most welcoming course in the Kennebunk area, Dutch Elm is in the inland town of Arundel. It is public, has rentals, and at $25 for 18 holes, its greens fees are considerably cheaper than those of the coastal courses. The facility features a pro shop, club and cart rentals, a snack bar for a goodie after the ninth hole, and putting greens. You can also reserve tee times a week in advance. The only things that aren’t welcome are short shorts, groups larger than four, and metal spikes.

2. Arundel Barn Playhouse

City: Arundel, ME
Category: Shopping
Telephone: (207) 985-5552
Address: 53 Old Post Rd.

Description: This young company—formed in 1997—brings a mix of old and new productions to the restored Smith Sisters barn not far from the Kennebunks. In the same season, they’ll do a New England premiere—like Roger Bean’s Route 66—and follow it up with a weathered play like Grease. Call or visit the Web site for this year’s schedule.
