1. Clyde Fest

City: Bynum, NC
Category: Annual Events & Festivals
Telephone: (919) 542-0394
Address: 173 Bynum Hill Rd.

Description: Local folk artist Clyde Jones loves kids, so the day the community organizes in his honor focuses squarely on them. Jones’s chainsaw-carved cedar log critters—giraffes, pigs, deer—ignite the imagination with their chunky forms and whimsical paint jobs. The highlight of Clyde Fest is a chance to watch Jones pare down a hunk of wood into an animal. Other activities include games such a beanbag toss into old tires decorated like flowers, face painting, art projects for children, music, magicians, and clowns. Hungry Clyde fans can buy cookies shaped like the artist’s critters as well as ice cream and barbecue from local vendors. Admission is $5, $2 for ages 2 to 12.
