Description: Nebraska Brewing Company is West Omaha’s answer to a locally owned burger joint with good beer. True to form, lots of the menu items feature the restaurant’s house-made brew. Chicken strips feature a batter spiked with ale, mussels are steamed in brew, and the gourmet macaroni and cheese is flavored with the house’s Infinite Wit. Most of the food on the menu is pretty standard pub fare: burgers and sandwiches, soup, salad, and a few higher-end entrees like steak medallions and lobster pasta alfredo. Nebraska Brewing Company distributes its beers to restaurants around the area and does have a tasting platter available—for the indecisive, sample a serving of six small glasses for $8. The atmosphere is rustic and casual, with a double level dining room and a large patio that’s great in nice weather.

Its list of barley wines makes it stand out from the rest of the Nebraska brewing pack, and it’s also taken home a fair amount of brewing awards in its own right.The Fathead Barley wine’s warming character and whiskey-inspired flavor make it a favorite. The Chardonnay French Oak Hop God is another singular offering: It hangs out in a French oak chardonnay barrel for six months before being served, and ends up with some citrus, grapefruit, and floral aromatics.

Description: Papio Bay Aquatic Center is five acres devoted to swimming paradise. Two waterslides, two diving boards, and a zero-depth pool are among the aquatic attractions. A sand volleyball court and sand play area, concession stands, and bathhouse round out the offerings, and a separate wading pool with a butterfly slide is perfect for younger swimmers. The center is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
