The District of Columbia boasts one of the finest health care systems in the country. Also nearby is the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health Systems, supported by the university's School of Medicine and one of the most renowned medical care and research facilities in the world. In 2003 the institution was named the nation's best hospital, second best medical college, and was the largest recipient of National Institutes of Health funding in America.
