Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Apartment Repair Follies: Can We Just Get It Right?

Posted 03-18-2014 at 04:53 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Early last week, it was my toilet (Wouldn't flush).

Late last week, it again was my toilet (Same thing happened again).

Over the weekend, it was the breezeway lights (They were dark at night after thunderstorms hit the area).

This week, it was my bathroom sink (Hot water knob switch would not turn).

Things just needed to be fixed around the Case abode, and maintenance would come to the rescue each time and fix the problem....

Case Does His Countdown To Spring

Posted 03-15-2014 at 06:28 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I've written so much about spring on Case's Column that if you see any more green, you'd probably end up seeing red. Makes you want to grow branches on your branches. Spring is almost here, ladies and gents, and it's less than a week henceforth.

And where better to give you the lowdown on spring than on City-Data, where it's great to be alive? Leafless trees will soon have leaves on them. Palm trees will be glad to have warmth so they can get more hardy...

A Word To High School Baseball Fans: Park Far Away

Posted 03-11-2014 at 08:20 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes............you end up the victim. No, nothing happened to me tonight, but it's always interesting to see what happens when baseball and schoolboy fans attend a high school baseball game. The suspense really builds when foul balls are hit out of the ballpark and land somewhere in the parking lot.

And that's where I have to make my brief point today. One of the foul balls flew completely out of the field of play and set off someone's...

I-69 Update: Looping Around Laredo With The Future

Posted 03-09-2014 at 04:47 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

All the Texas Transportation Commission needed to do was boot-scoot U.S. Highway 59 over to a portion of Loop 20 from Saunders Ave and the U.S. 59 East cutoff to Mines Road in Laredo, Texas. And voila! Now, that stretch of road will officially be eligible for interstate designation once the freeway is complete in that area. Signs denoting the road's future status are already going up along the route, which will total 11 miles.

Yes, there is a ways to go as funding has...

Setting My Sights On Louisiana For The Next Getaway

Posted 03-08-2014 at 09:22 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Living in the meanwhile, I've got to slave away at work so I can earn some money. Then, later on, that green can be put to good use so I can see something else that's green. That something else happens to be pine trees.

Actually, what I'm planning to do for my next vacation is not stay in Texas. I'm going to cross that line into Natchitoches, Louisiana, and spend a few days there. Dates are not in concrete yet, but some of my ideas are. Natchitoches...
