Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Save Me A Chocolate Bunny For Easter, Will Ya?

Posted 03-26-2016 at 08:46 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, folks, let me wish you a Happy Easter 2016, everybody!

I got to go to church this afternoon. It was a special 3 p.m. service, and the place was 80 percent full. Imagine what five other services that Preston Trail Community Church will be doing before this weekend is out when you consider the numbers I've given you. That's pretty good. The greeter and usher team were all out in full force and did a marvelous job. Hopefully, we've had people visit the...

Cousin Brucie Is A Hump Day Tradition

Posted 03-25-2016 at 08:56 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

He may be 80 years young, but he still chugs along as if he were 30 all over again. You hear him on SiriusXM's '60s on 6 each Wednesday and Saturday. And every time we get to Wednesday, the world-wide Hump Day on the way to the weekend, one's ears can be treated to the talents of one Bruce Morrow. You know him as your Cousin Brucie.

Yes, he's our Cousin Brucie. The Cuz. Can you believe that rascal has been in radio for almost six decades? Hard to believe,...

How To Vitalize East Lubbock

Posted 03-21-2016 at 03:16 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Notice I did not say revitalize. It's simply because that part of town has never been vitalized at all, despite tons of potential.

The east side of Lubbock, Texas, ladies and gentlemen, needs a serious renaissance. Never mind what demographics exist there; there's a positive way that you can play off of that. Every time I look at Google Maps or take a drive through the area, I cannot help but think of the potential that area has, but, yet, the city is missing...

Eck'-sit Or Egg'-zit: Looking For An Exit

Posted 03-19-2016 at 07:15 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Maybe it's the Texan in me that makes whatever comes out of my mouth happen. In my home state, we pronounce certain words unlike people in other parts of my great America. There's one right now that I really agonize over.

So, how do we pronounce the word exit? Look, I'm not intending to be another Sesame Street, where Gordon, Maria, and Big Bird all congregate over the letter of the day. Is it egg'-zit or eck'-sit? Now, I've been known to use both, but never...

It Was Just For A Few Minutes, Except....

Posted 03-17-2016 at 10:07 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

....that it was supposed to be just a nap. Actually, it wasn't even intended to be a nap. All I wanted to do for a few minutes was just lie down on the bed. I'd just cracked open a Dr Pepper and took my first drink.

Really. All I needed was a breather. Just lie down for a few minutes.

Well, a few minutes suddenly turned into...........

....................three hours???

So much for enjoying Thursday night....
