Going to church, reading the bible, listening to Christian music will not advance your spiritual life. These activities may give you more understanding but until you are ready to lay down your life and take up your cross this leads nowhere.

What I am talking about is the sacrifice of self to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in the world. There is a destiny that God had for each of us that only we can personally discover. We can discover it only by detaching from the world and making ourselves available for the Holy Spirit. By detaching from the world--now you have time--the commodity that most Christians are not willing to give.

Jesus said, "Self-help is not help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, to finding yourself, your true self. (Matthew 16:25)

"God has planted eternity in the human heart." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

"Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62)

"The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me." (Acts 20:24)

"We have been sent to speak for Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:20)

"We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

Living Past Personal Limitations

Posted 08-08-2023 at 10:07 AM by Albert Finch (How Do I Advance My Spiritual Life?)

Romans 6:12 - "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions."

God did not intend the body to relate to the spiritual or supernatural world. It is essential, then, that we do not judge our true potential by the abilities or limitations of our physical bodies.

Our powers of sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste are all related to the natural, physical world. The potential of our bodies is therefore governed by its physical...

Inspiring Others

Posted 08-08-2023 at 10:05 AM by Albert Finch (How Do I Advance My Spiritual Life?)

John 15:16 - "You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you."

Many Christians never progress beyond the basic principles of the gospel: others -- the minority -- demonstrate the abundant riches of God's grace.

The preacher's task should be to preach of the fullness of grace through Jesus Christ. Christians need...

The Holy Spirit Breathing Through Us

Posted 08-08-2023 at 10:03 AM by Albert Finch (How Do I Advance My Spiritual Life?)

Romans 8:11 - "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you."

As the dead body of Christ was given life and brought out by the Holy Spirit, may we be given eyes to see and ears to hear and a tongue to speak as the oracles of God. "If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God" (1 Peter 4:11). We are dependent...

Blessing Others

Posted 08-08-2023 at 10:00 AM by Albert Finch (How Do I Advance My Spiritual Life?)

1 Timothy 2:1 - "I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them." Luke 6:28 -"bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."

When we bless someone, we are, in essence, saying, "May all of God's good plan for your come to pass." When we bless others, the blessing comes back to us. Not only should we bless those whom we love and admire, but God also commands us to...

Earnest Confident Intense Expectation

Posted 08-08-2023 at 09:59 AM by Albert Finch (How Do I Advance My Spiritual Life?)

Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

The way we use the word "hope" in everyday speech and the meaning of hope used in the Bible are two different things. When we say "I hope so" we simply mean "I desire or I wish."

Bible hope isn't wishing at all. It is earnest confident intense expectation -- and that's something else entirely. Acts 26:6 uses the phrase "hope...
