My Daily Life and Thoughts while in San Diego | List of Best Posts
This blog is where I express myself to the world or at least to those who might stop by to read what I post . Maybe God will use what I post (I am a Christian and this blog will have a most decidedly Christian bent to it) to good effect in the lives of my readers.

I may turn some of my posts into a book. I may cease blogging here altogether. Who knows. But for now..I am content to post away in this, my own little corner of the world.

Rather than reading through my now lengthy list of posts you may wish to read what I consider to be my very best posts or you can just read the posts that deal with a single subject category that might interest you.

Please know that I am open to any input on any topic I write about. If you have something to say about anything you see written here please....feel free to speak up in the form of leaving a comment or sending me a PM (private message).

And if you are in San Diego and wish to meet the one and only Carlos (that's me )...drop me a private message. I always enjoy meeting one of my readers!

Thanks.

Carlos

Swine flu concern at near hysteria!

My landlord told me today that President Obama had declared the Swine flu, otherwise known as H1N1, a national emergency.

I at first wondered whether he was joking or had perhaps not heard the news right but I just read a news story that confirms what he told me.

At the risk of going out on a limb may I say that this appears to me to be utterly and completely ridiculous.

Let me if I may put things in perspective....

The regular flu...you know that disease that has been around for ages and that we have had vaccines for kills...get this...an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people PER YEAR!! The share of US deaths from that, for years has been an estimated 36,000 PER YEAR!! That's according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control itself...see CDC - Seasonal Influenza (Flu) - Q & A: Questions and Answers Regarding Estimating Deaths from Influenza in the United States, and U.S. seasonal flu kills 13,000 since Jan. - UPI.com)

I tried to find some authoritative source to determine the number that have died from Swine flu in the U.S. and about the only thing I was able to come up with was a statement at the CDC site saying that "Since April 2009, CDC has received reports of 95 laboratory-confirmed pediatric 2009 H1N1 deaths and another 7 pediatric deaths that were laboratory confirmed as influenza, but where the flu virus subtype was not determined." (CDC H1N1 Flu | Situation Update).

That was written on October 23. A couple of days ago.

Does anyone else smell something real fishy here?

I mean we have an estimate of 36,000 deaths from regular flu and less than 100 dead from Swine flu or what might be considered swine flu in the last 6 months or so!

And now we are declaring a national emergency!???

That's like having California declare a state of emergency from dust storms because Arnold get's a piece of dust flying into his tea cup!

I wonder how many more dollars this will take out of our pockets in the form of taxes?

The way global warming legislation was passed recently was bad enough (global warming as being caused by man-made processes is very, very dubious science).

Honestly it seems like the U.S. government keeps trying to find ways to spend money. Our money on this or that to protect us from ourselves.

In this present case...putting into motion the great resources of the US. and state governments to protect us from a flu that kills less than 2/1000th of a single percent of the regular flu!

Forgive me but this sounds like something that is being fostered on the American people to scare them into letting the government take all the more care of them (with the result that the U.S. government is getting bigger and bigger and encroaching more and more into our daily lives as a benevolent big brother who knows best).

Don't get me wrong. Every single death is regrettable. My heartfelt sympathy to anyone who has lost a loved one from any flu.

But where has the government been with it's emergency disease declarations regarding the regular flu???!!!

A flu that kills so many more people than the Swine flu that Swine flu deaths are not even a blip on the radar screen!

Oh...I suppose the U.S. government is trying to protect us from what could happen. I mean the Swine flu could mutate and get really, really bad.

But that hasn't happened nor is it likely to happen or even something that we have much control over! Swine flu, like the regular flu, is unstoppable with respect to any of us being able to do anything to guarantee that we will never get it (other than living in a bubble I suppose).

So why the emergency declaration?

Medical science has given it's best shot to try and protect us from regular flu without success. Regular flu vaccines are said to be about 30% effective if that. We are still getting sick as a nation from regular flu and people in the thousands and thousands die every single year from complications from the regular flu. Medical science has failed. Big time! In protecting us from the regular flu.

Despite all the vaccines and effort people still get the regular flu.

So what in the world makes anybody think that the U.S. government will do any better in combating the Swine flu??

As if declaring a national health emergency and focusing on getting Swine flu vaccine to everyone that we can (even forcing some medical workers to get vaccinated against it...in New York...until that was overturned in the courts) will somehow improve the medical record with regard to protecting us from...well...flu!

What the U.S. government is doing in declaring a national medical emergency is silly at best and downright irresponsible at worst in my opinion. It doesn't even make logical sense given the ridiculously low numbers of deaths we have experienced from Swine flu and how widespread it has become.

Quite frankly it comes across as an attempt by this administration to make itself look like it is doing something about something that is on people's minds.

Let's save emergency declarations for real emergencies that we can do something about!

The U.S. government can help hospitals run more smoothly, perhaps educate people more about proper hand washing, make vaccines more readily available to those who want them, and take other such measures but that is about it.

They cannot stop the spread of the Swine flu. The genie is out of the bottle and nothing we do now is going to put it back in again.

Swine flu is here to stay and there is nothing the U.S. government can do to protect us from the chance of being exposed to it. Just as they cannot protect us from regular flu.

UPDATE

A friend sent me a link to an article implying that President Obama is moving in the direction of eventually imposing martial law and requiring everyone to get vaccinated or else. While I don't necessarily believe that this will happen in the case of this so-called Swine Flu "emergency" I do believe that this "emergency", based on the flimsiest of reasons for declaring one (the "facts" supporting the "emergency" are based more on hysteria and foretelling from the hip than on real facts) is a move in the general direction of grabbing more and more control for the federal governmemt. Under the pretex of supposed "emergencies" and other national "concerns".

As I have said before...American's are being boiled to death respecting their freedoms like a lobster is slowly boiled to death. Almost imperceptibly at first until when the lobster wakes up to what is happening it is too late.

Personally...I think it's too late already. We have already lost our freedoms at least of the kind that this country was created to promote. We cannot change how things are anymore. At least not readily or effectively. The U.S. has already tipped beyond the point of going back to limited government as the Founding Fathers intended and as the U.S. Constitution talks of.

Quite frankly the U.S. has become a cesspool of immorality and ungodly behaviour. Watch any of the modern TV shows like Glee and if you have any kind of moral conscience left the immorality and blatent sin being promoted under the guise of entertainment is astounding!

Even last week I had a so-called Christian tell me that they were divorcing their husband and going with another man as if such a thing was not at all adultery.

I had another person tell me that they LOVE to lust. They were being deadly serious. I know them and they were not kidding. They LOVE to lust as if it's something wonderful to do.

Hardly anyone thinks anything of someone getting pregnant out of marriage anymore. And the idea that a person should not have sex until marriage is about as extinct as the first bathing suits that ever came out are. Hardly anyone thinks that is something that should be done anymore.

Whatever feels good do it is the refrain of our modern society. As long as you can get away with it that is.

Like I said...a cesspool of immorality and wrong doing.

And it's gonna get worse. Much worse.

The Bible says that when the punishment for evil deeds does not receive a quick punishment that he hearts of man are given fully to do evil. We don't hardly know what is evil anymore! Never mind whether we even punish adultery, immorality, homosexuality, or any number of other things. We not only don't punish such evil acts when committed openly but as a society we now condone such sin by allowing ourselves to be entertained by such on TV shows and not stating such things as being evil anymore.

Do you honestly believe that the God of all the universe can stand by and watch our blasphemies and evil conduct and do nothing?

That He doesn't care? That He is willing to continue to overlook our insults?

God is patient. God is loving. God is gracious and good and kind and worthy of admiration. But He is also a God of wrath! Against sin!

If that were not so His own Son, Jesus Christ, would not have been allowed to be crucified for us!

God HATES sin! And as a country we have become full of it. We are flowing in a vat of it!

I tremble to think of God's discipline in my own life whenever I chose to go off into a bit of sinning! I can only imagine what lies ahead for the U.S. if it continues down the path of turning it's back on God and all the Judeo-Christian principles it was founded upon.

I am working as hard as I possibly can to prepare myself for the worst while hoping for the best. With an internet business that will allow me to live anywhere in the world should the time come for me to have to move elsewhere.

I would encourage any Americans reading this to also take measures to prepare as best you can for the worst while hoping and working for the best to whatever degree you can.

Above all get into a right relationship with God and cling to Him closely!
