Hiking in Denver

Posted 07-21-2018 at 10:39 AM by NorthDenverGirl

While hiking in Denver isn't really possible a short drive will get you to some great hiking spots. Here are some of my favorite places to jump on the trail and go for it.

Golden Canyon State Park - Just up past Golden this state park has several trails rated easy - medium. From forest views to meadows, this is a great place to hike with kids as well.

St Mary's Glacier - Go early Spring/Summer and you can feel like you are still in a bit of a winters wonderland. The hike to the lake and the bottom of the glacier is a 3/4 mile uphill hike. You can then continue all the way to the top of the glacier if you are adventurous. You might want to take *** tracks and hiking poles if you plan on getting up the glacier.

Chautauqua Boulder - In the heart of Boulder you can jump straight on the trails and meander a little or head up a face of one of the flatirons. Shaded trails are in abundance and it's also great for snowshoeing in the winter months. That first part of the climb can be tough if you start from the main parking lot. Go around the back of the property and it is a lot more gentle. It get's busy here so start early in the morning or take the free shuttle from just down the road.

Roxborough State Park - Very close to downtown Denver, you can find at least 5 great hikes within Roxborough State Park. From 1.5 miles to almost seven miles there is just about a hike for everyone. These are mainly Easy to moderate hikes.

There are plenty of great hikes in Colorado but if you are looking for something that is a relatively quick drive from Denver these are my top picks!
