Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Whatever Happened To Prompt Service?

Posted 08-28-2008 at 08:20 PM by case44

It's not very often that I rant about anything, but instead, I think I'll just spend this time wondering. That's right, wondering. Wondering why I make a simple request at my apartment office to have a maintenance fellow come on up to the breezeway next door to my second-story apartment and.......

......replace a light bulb.

That was two weeks ago. Well, this week came along, and, sure enough, the overhead light bulb in the breezeway was finally replaced. Now, my question to you is this: Why did it take so long?? I won't bore you with any jokes containing the phrase, "How many maintenance people does it take to change a light bulb??" No, you don't need to be bored with that. You've got better things to do. Now, back to my question. Two weeks. Fourteen calendar days. And just to change a simple light bulb. I may not have the answer to this. I'm pretty sure a few of you out there probably do.

Now, to be fair, the service at the complex where I live is usually very prompt and efficient. I've lived there for four years and haven't really had too many problems, if any. But the light bulb incident brings up another thing, something that we all deal with in shops, stores, grocers, gas stations, restaurants, and hotels. Fast, prompt service. Yeah, I know. I'm not saying quality doesn't matter. You ask if they do a job well and not care whether they do it fast. Is it just the generations of today, with all the preoccupations of humanity? In your comments, you can sound off or you can tell me about an experience you may have had with prompt service or lack thereof. And you certainly don't want your breezeway to go dark, do you?

So, whatever happened to prompt service??
