Auditory Verbal vs Auditory Oral
For a while I was under the impression that the difference remained in the parents or family involvement and ability to participate on the day to day therapy for your child. ie. I believed that if I dropped my child to an auditory school and he spent time with the teachers and other kids this was auditory verbal and If I participated in the class and then bring what I learned home to implement on my day to day it was auditory oral.
Finally after some research I come to find out that it comes to the clues for auditory oral (lipreading, body cues ie. mouth, hands, body, face expressions) and when it comes to auditory verbal is more about the ability to identify the sound and basically push your child to listen and hear alone without relying on cues; making him aware and recognize the sound, not ignore it.
I'm not an expert or therapist, however I like to understand the approaches so I can better decide. They are both geared to encourage your child to speak it is just different approaches. I believe you can learn from both and implement at home on your day to day.
I currently benefit from both approaches and I find value on each of them. I can't say I prefer one over the other, instead I feel they compliment in my case.
