What maps teach us

Posted 05-09-2015 at 04:22 AM by Fortoggie

WHAT THE MAPS TEACH US. Tonight I am looking over a map that has had millions of hours [ over 45 years ] and billions of dollars spent on its development. Its a satellite map of the world. Our focus in on the mid-east, where we see a small fertile rim stretching from part of Israel through Jordan,Syria then curving southeast, following the
Tigris and Euphrates rivers through Baghdad into Kuwait.
In the beginning the US kept all the information to itself but in time realized that others needed to know, to plan, even to survive and to keep hostilities down. This fertile Rim has had a long history of drought ever few years [ see the last few chapters of Genesis ] but in the last half century the production of oil has made it possible for most of these countries to buy food from afar. As for Israel it has been sustained by billions of dollars from the U S and Palestine has been kept alive by Egypt and Russia.
Eight years ago this fertile rim started a new drought and has drastically affected the water supply so much so that Iraq has threatened to blow up dams in Turkey to release more water for the 7.25 million who live in Baghdad.
What the maps teach us. Maybe we should be studying maps instead of politics or economics? In some ways maps teach us more about what is going on in the world.
