I thought it might have been in January, but apparently not. I'm about ready to get rid of the ugly yellow and green ones we have now.

Has anybody seen the new design, presumably that will be issued next year?

Short answer? Not one minute too soon. The state, especially Birmingham, is filled to the rafters with superb graphic designers. You'd think they could do something that didn't look like the winning entry of a 4H Club Competition.

I like this picture of a silhouette of tall pines in front of a setting sun, and I’ve always though it would make a good license plate. I’m not sure how you’d make the numbers visible though, if they were white it would ruin the look.


Personally I just pay the $50 for the Forests Forever tag. The money goes to a good cause and it looks good.

Yes, that's a nice picture. A lot of the specialty plates we have are hard to read from any distance. I think we may have a few too many specialty plates ... seems I've heard there are about 400 available. There are two free standard plates: the "God Bless America" one, and the ugly green and yellow one. I have retired Navy plates, and they used to look good, but they've managed to make the new ones ugly.

I really do like the fact they the state has transitioned to silk-screened plates, rather than the old stamped ones.

I think it's a state law that the tags have to be ugly.
I keep the Crimson Tide ones on mine.

Are they coming out with one for the bi-centennial?

My home state of Missouri just came out with their bi-centennial one and it's awful.

I really liked the “Sweet Home Alabama” plate that we had before the green plates. It was actually kind of cool to have that plate on the car when traveling out of state.

I agree. That plate was nice.

I like the current one as I can spot them here in GA from far away as it is shall we say..."unique" In all seriousness, the Sweet Home Alabama plate was beautiful and great in my humble out of state opinion.
