Congratulations, Rotor. You'll be moving up soon then?

Minutman, I could never give out pics of a friend to people on the internet. I'm sure her life will work out for her though.

Rotor, sorry I missed you on your short stop here. Glad it all worked out.

Your right, what was I thinking. I guess she is for real and good luck to her.

I live in the east and did 2 trips to Alaska back in 97 and 02. I've got print pics which unfortunately won't work here.
Maybe next year's vacation will be an Alaskan one.

LOL, Minuteman, I figured when I posted it that someone might think it was the old "I have a friend who..." ruse. But I just wanted to hear some male perspective on this instead of the usual "Alaska is full of men" blah blah blah type of thing. I think women my age have more available to us than the ladies in their 20's and early 30's.

Well here comes an outsiders opinion...
I have lived all over the US, not Alaska, but still...
I was always hunting for the intelligent gal, or at least one that was interested in smarts, so I spent my time hanging out at libraries reading whatever I felt interested in. Never found a woman my age ONCE in a library during all my travels. All kids or old women... sigh.

And I agree with the bar scene, getting her drinking thing. Being drunk makes you choose the WRONG person! Been there before.
Whatever things she likes, get her into groups about them. But maybe, she is so selective that every oppurtunity that comes along, she shuts them down. I am now down that same road... If she is not right for me, then don't talk to me.

Default Don't worry, I'll be through Juneau

Don't worry Danny L., I'll be through Juneau. Can't hardly help but if you're traveling to Haines unless you want to drive thousands of miles through Canada. In all probability, since we're trying hard to get there before the fireweed blooms I'll be bugging you again about restaurants in no time at all. Tried a teppanyaki/sushi place when we were in Juneau last, OK but not great. They fly all their fish in from Seattle, not even Alaskan salmon on the menu! Go figure....

We've had some great weather recently, were you here to catch some it?
Sorry about the bad night out experience, I really don't eat out much so I make a horrible tour guide. That's why I rarely make any recommendations about resturaunts with exception of Valentine's which is downtown.

Had a wonderful trip, Haines is unreasonably beautiful and we met friendly folks everywhere we went. For a town of 2500, there are a lot of unexpected amenities and more good restaurants than you'd think. Here's a shot of the small boat harbor, with the old Ft. Seward in the background.

That is so beautiful....
