I think the genocide stuff was even further off topic but hey, thread drift can be fun. This whole thread was a bit off anyways when it started.
I refuse to acknowledge you anymore. I really think you are trolling now. Bye.

BONUSES can be huge, CEO's rake in millions, etc... When this was going on, us government workers were making the same amount of money. We took the job, because of the alledged stability, work protections, and pensions. WE knew that the pay was less than in the private sector. Most of us (99%) love what we do, want to 'serve the public', and do a good job. NOW that the private sector is hurting, they are 'jealous' of what we have and want to take it away. BTW, WE PAY TAXES TOO. IN fact, we pay more in taxes than the average person in the private sector does -- we can't deduct and legally 'hide' profits.

Are there bad people in government jobs, absolutely...

I really only have one question to ask. If you are that dissatisfied with the service provided, whether it be police, fire, public works, etc... What are you doing about it??? Why would you think cutting pay and benefits will make it better.

If you don't like paying taxes, go to South America. Once you buy your land, you are done. However, roads never get paved/fixed by the government, and if you get sick, hopefully you can afford to pay someone to take you to the hospital. Hope you can pay for your treatment too, in advance most of the time. (No right to treatment, etc...) I have friends from multiple South American countires and they are glad to pay taxes and receive services and rights we have here. I could on further, but you get the point.
Kind of puts it all into perspective doesn't it? What a bunch of spoiled brats Americans are for complaining about the public sector.

My father's chosen career was to be a public school teacher.

He didn't choose that career because of the bens or because of the summer time off. He chose it because that was what he wanted to do with his life, and he did it very well. My mother always pressured him to go into a more lucrative field and he even tried to do so but his heart just wasn't' in it.

What I remember most about summers when I was a kid was how Dad was always either working on the slope or some other summer employment to supplement his teacher's salary.

A couple of hours ago he fell down when he got up to get a drink of water. His blood sugar and blood pressure have been abnormally low today. I suppose that some of you begrudge him the health care benefits that might possibly make his life better....make this whole thing easier.

I guess that some of you believe that public employees should be public servants.

Public employees have traditionally worked for less money than those in the private sector...

wtf...I give up.

it's sad to see the United States of America at war against it's own people.

They've played you well.

Look at his join date, Jan. 2008, now look at his reputation and the star; that right there tells you he is not a troll. Like Ray posted, arctic has been around a while. I know you feel passionate about this issue, but he's entitled to his opinion too, and perhaps you are the one trolling.

A new person especially shouldn't accuse others of trolling and get an attitude because someone posts different then what they believe.

HUH? I'm not new. I only said that because he seems to be "poking sticks through the fence". I could care less what his opinion is. We all have one. It's whatever.

It is very frustrating and I wish your father good health.

I am in need of arthroscopic knee surgery, but I can't do it because I don't make enough money, as a teacher, to pay the copays on the procedure. But- teachers make too much money.

Not trolling but my sense of humor might be hard to appreciate sometimes. I still can't believe a thread about public unions turned into a discussion of genocide, etc.
