From FOX News....

Nugget to plead guilty in Ketchikan Court Tuesday April 24th.

$10,000 fine...suspension of hunting privileges in Alaska and any Forest Service properties nationwide for two-years

Nugent also agreed to pay the state $600 for the bear that was taken illegally.

With hunting, Nugent has run afoul of the law before.

In August 2010, California revoked Nugent's deer hunting license after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of deer-baiting and not having a properly signed tag.

Nugent's loss of that deer hunting license through June 2012 allows 34 other states to revoke the same privilege under the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact. Each state, however, can interpret and enforce the agreement differently.

From Alaska Dispatch...by Craig Medred

Quote:
Or maybe he was really afraid the feds might try to up the Lacey Act charge to a felony and bring the hammer down on him.

Federal prosecutors seem plenty happy to play rough. And even the threat of felony might have been a risk greater than Nugent was willing to bear.

Felons, you see, lose the right to bear arms. It would be the golden opportunity for the feds to pry the gun out of Nugent's still warm, live hand.

Could the feds have made a felony case? Well, to do so, they would have had to show that Nugent knew he'd broken the law before shipping his bear hide out of Alaska.

Attorney Ross has been publicly careful to stress that Nugent was unaware that he'd broken the law.

Uhmm do I really want to jump in? I have hunted in past. I don't eat fish bears. I have had good bear meat when handled properly (surpirse to me). I was in a realationship with someone who whole goal in life was hunting. Hunted around the world. (No elephants tigers etc) heard has property up in bush now in AK for hunting. Ate all meat when allowed to fly out. Otherwise when not allowed tried best to not let meat go to waste. No baiting real hunting. (I have never baited seems like a Southern 48 thing to me along with counting every horn and eye guard as a point) With that -- I do not know any serious hunter that travels for hunting that does not know the rules of the specific area hunting in. Also in an area that is required to have guides or guides provided it is also just as much fault as the guides. And to pay guides to not make sure you have proper regulations and let alone document it on a TV show is moronic to me. I do find it interesting this all came out when he just came under secret service questioning for complete stupid talk. Wonder if three strikes your out forever applies for him?

It makes no sense to continue blabbering about Ted N. The case is over, and he will pay for his hunting violations. Things like this happen every year in Alaska, except that most of the offenders aren't as well known. Some outfitters, guides, or just clients get in worst trouble.

We have had guides caught killing moose from the air to use as bait for their clients on bear hunts. We have had pilots "driving" moose with an aircraft toward a hunter on the ground, or just guides without guiding licenses taking clients on all kinds of hunts, and these are just what I remember at the moment. Read the hunting violations by the end of September, and you will me amazed.
