Say-rah has kind of an exaggerated, folksy, upper Midwest thing going on. All the Alaskans that I've met have an accent, but it's not nearly so exaggerated and really sounds nothing like hers. It's funny, though, the "Alaskan accent" is not something you can describe very well, and I would bet a lot of Alaskans don't even think they have one. What Palin is doing is anyone's guess, but my theory is that she affects that accent in order to sound like a regular ole trustworthy hockey mom, donchaknow.

Most of us are either from out of state or were born to parents from out of state. My dad was from Michigan and my mom from Virginia but neither one of them sounded much like their family members who remained in those states. My aunts from Michigan of German descent have a slight midwestern Scandinavian twang but nothing like Sarah Palin's.

Yeah, that's why it's puzzling to me. And you know, maybe it's somewhat specific to Anchorage, because all but one of the folks I know from up there are from Anchorage, but they all have the same "accent". It seems like most natives from villages have a common accent, and it almost seems like the accent I'm talking about is a much milder form of that, maybe. The funny thing is that one of the guys I'm talking about is actually FROM Texas, but he moved to Anchorage something like 15 years ago and most definitely sounds like it. He has that same accent that I'm talking about.

She ain't from Minnesota. I'm from Minnesota. There is nobody as dim lit as she is, from Minnesota!

I never said she was from Minnesota. I said her accent SOUNDED Minnesotan. People say I sound slightly Minnesotan and I'm not from there.

Did you lose your remote?

I have never detected a discernable accent in her speech.

She's accomplished far more than 99.99% of us here ever will.

That's true, I've never stolen land to build a sports complex or fooled a bunch of Americans to send me money for no good reason. Nor have I ever tried to ban books or acted as if I knew anything about running a government and a successful oil industry into the ground.
