All you gotta do to feel safe is...turn off the TV.

No TV news, no problem. You know their motto: "If it bleeds, it leads"

Rotor what the hell should I do about my HAIR? Hairdressers should be drug tested for crack but it's too late for that. To make it even worse I'm hormonal right now.

Sorry about capitalizing, sometimes you start typing and forget to check back mistakes.Anyway thanks all for your advice.I will continue to research differant towns and most likely attempt to move to anchorage or fairbanks, then after a while move to a smaller town.I understand about people getting tired of their homeplace being criticized as I currently live in puerto rico and people are always asking me how many times have we been robbed or assaulted.People sometimes get wrong ideas by listening to other's fool comments.Anyway, thanks again and I will do research on what to do if I run across a moose or bear.

As far as crime data, Anchorage has comparable crime rates to other cities of its size. If this concerns you then perhaps you should be looking at smaller towns? Why exactly do you want to move to Alaska or Anchorage in particular? Is there a job opportunity? A need to be closer to a loved one? A desire to commune with nature? Seeking a drastic change? Maybe people can help more if you clarify what you are seeking.
I guess you can say I want to move to Alaska more for the drastic change.I came for a visit when I was about 10 years old with my folks and swore I would one day live there.Since I will be graduating in March(god willing)I decided it would be a good time to start somewhere new. Also a desire to raise my children in a more nature like place.I would like to move to a town where I can work in a hospital and my husband can also find work(he has 13 years experience in tree work).I know about living in crime rampant places as I lived for a while in Brooklyn,New York and that was traumatizing in itself.I am truly looking forward to this new experience.

It's not the hair, it's the semi-crazed hormonal you glaring out of the corner. I see enough of that at home, and She can be a real grizzly to cohabitate with. Personally, I think of several caves I know of, but Hope is across the Arm, and that makes it a real long commute.

We just moved to Fairbanks with a one year old, and let me tell you - I couldn't find a better place to raise my child. He is able to gain culture, learn to adapt to weather changes and such, experience nature and wildlife... all in one place! I'm yet to be afraid to take a walk with him (okay, I'm a bit afraid when there's a lot of snow, but only because I might slip and embarrass myself!!). Don't believe everything you read - there's much much worse places you could raise a family
