My hubby had none of the above and it's turned out to be the best thing we've ever done! Well, he had no oilfield or slope experience, but he was already licensed in his trade.

That last part about already being licensed in a trade is key...

Glad it worked out well for you too. There are plenty of stories where it worked out OK to very good. And a lot of stories where it didn't work out well at all...

We got lucky. They wanted someone with 2 years oilfield experience and actually turned him down but called him back 2 weeks later. They never said, but I think whomever they chose before him failed the drug test.

My wife got her job, because the #1 person got another job and she was #2 on the list.

Thanks for all the assistance and feedback. I gotta think it can't be that hard. They're still pulling oil out of the ground up there and someone's gotta be making some money. Mind as well be me!

And for anyone who doesn't think I can do it...well...I guess I'll prove you wrong, huh?

Write when you find work.

It's not so much that people think you "can't" do it; it's more like you just can't show up on the slope, rent a place to live, and make the rounds of the oil companies. You need a better plan. I don't think they'll even let you on a plane for the slope unless you're authorized to be on it.

True.

But to the OP, you can apply for just about any job up there online without buying a ticket to Anchorage.
