How does it affect the state then? Are the lawyers and doctors in Alaska generally subpar compared to the rest of the state? Or is there just a lack of access to both compared to others?
We have good ones, and bad ones.

I'm pretty sure that most people practicing law in Alaska weren't born and raised there. They're just people who have decided, for whatever reason, that they want to live in Alaska. Alaska also has reciprocity agreements with something like 27 other states, which means that those who have passed the bar in those states don't have to take the Alaska bar; they're automatically admitted if they decide to work there. Washington state is one of them.

I haven't had any experiences with Alaskan attorneys that would lead me to believe that they're subpar.

Are you considering working in Alaska after you finish law school?

Not considering, but it was just something I was curious about. I'm a law student in KY which has reciprocity with many states. It just surprised me to find out that a state could function well without a single law school. I guess, yeah, the population isn't that big so proportionately not many lawyers are needed. But it just seems so strange to have an entire state without a law school. Reciprocity doesn't kick in till usually 5-7 years after being a practicing lawyer. But yeah, just something I've been curious about.

Thanks though. Just something I find interesting. After I found out Alaska doesn't have one, I kinda figured a lot would come from Washington since it's the closest state.

I don't think a law school in Alaska would be financially feasible.

Not having a law school is the least of Alaska's worries. The state manages to function, though how well it does so is entirely debatable these days.

^ I love it.

Most attorneys I know of are on the top end of middle aged and came from out of state several decades ago.

I can think of one local boy who got his degree outside and came back.
