My experience with DSL from MTA has been quite different from travelmate38. I pay a flat fee of $49.99 per month that includes unlimited uploads and downloads, there are no extra charges. I am also connected to the Internet the majority of the time and have only lost my connection when there has been a power-outage.

DSL may not be as fast as cable, but I usually get between 100ms and 150ms response time when connecting to lower-48 servers. That is usually sufficient to play most on-line games without much lag time.

I have not tried out MTA's DTV service, so I can't comment. I used to have DishNetwork, but their service was very spotty so I canceled the service in August 2006. I've been watching DVD's exclusively ever since.

Hey there Glitch, how are ya? I'm doing damn well now that we're finally here. I love this place and can't believe that I wasted almost a year of my life in that sh*thole called California.

If you don't mind my asking, what are you speeds for the aforementioned unlimited service?

I got the TruBlue bundle, which upgraded my DSL to 768 kbps. Without the TruBlue bundle the DSL speed for $49.99/month is 512 kbps.

Default Mta

We are new to Wasilla as well and when we bought our house, my husband, who is the TV person in our house, had researched DirecTV and MTA and some others. He bought MTA services and has been very pleased with tech support for both the internet and TV, the cost (we are getting 3 months free per year), the free equipment and the packages they offer. It is great that we do not have satelite dishes hanging around.

Where did you go to get those promotional prices?

We're looking at the Ultimate Bundle with the 8Mbs service for $126/month. I'd hang myself if I had to deal with 768k. I spend far too much on my computers one way or the other to deal with that speed. Hell, AT&T's 768k DSL was just $15/mo last time I checked. But of course that was in the People's Republik.

We went into the main office on Parks Hwy, just past Crusey and in front of Carrs.

Thanks for the info. Another question for you folks. How long does a closing take up here in Alaska? All of our ducks are in a row and I didn't know if it was shorter than the usual 30 days necessary in the lower 48.

They finished constructing my home Sep. 15, 2003, and I closed two weeks later on Sep. 30, 2003. I think it just depends on how quickly your realitor can put together all the paperwork.

We got a closing in one week because it was a cash deal and the house was vacant. With financing in place, it is probably close to that if the house is vacant - maybe 2 weeks.

The one thing that we did not do and this is important - we did not request an "AS BUILT." When we put up our back fence, we found that the builder did not allow enough set back on one side. It is now costing us around $3000 to legally adjust that set back.

The sooner we close, the better. I can't wait to get the hell out of this hotel, even though we aren't paying for it.
