LOL - maybe now is the time to start "decluttering"? I thought we got rid of a lot when we came up, but still have two big crates we haven't touched in over a year now. I am such a packrat, but am getting better about getting rid of things, but whenever I do, sure as heck, a week later will need it... Still brought a lot of wants with that haven't hardly been touched in a year, so still weeding through and trying to discard. We have some people staying here this weekend that moved up from Missouri a year ago with just pretty much suitcases, after storing most of their things down there, and started hitting yard sales and second-hand stores. What people say about leaving it there if possible and buying new here is so true, much less than shipping.

Most of what I have are antiques from my parents' estate. They aren't going anywhere. When its time to move we'll assemble the convoy of trucks & barge the whole kit & kaboodle up.

That area has to be one of the best kept secrets in Alaska. Almost nobody seems to be aware of just how nice it is.

well, for me...and I'm single...I downsized my living requirements. I've always believed "never lower your standard of living..just your cost of living".

Is that truly the only coal mine operational in Alaska? And I would assume that you were referring to Healy? Just curious.

No, there are the mines in Sutton, as well as Beluga. I am sure there are others too, just not familiar with them is all.

The original statement though was not that it was the only mine, just that it was the only one of that size still operating.

In fact the Usibelli mine is the only operating coal mine in Alaska.
