Well, we not only had color film, but...

Digital cameras existed. Not that you'd have wanted one though. I don't think "consumer model" applied!

Personal computers not only exist in 1983, there were portable ones too! By that time not only had Adam Osborne come up with two, but the folks at Linear Systems had changed their name to Kaypro Corporation, and were on the second variation of at least two models. I lugged a 45 pound suitcase sized personal computer all over of the state of Alaska. A 1983 Kaypro-4 that I'd modified in ways that were fabulous back then.

Three wheelers weren't compared to walking either. The comparison was to using a Honda 90 Trail bike, which was better than walking... most of the time. But of course in early spring and late fall there was this little problem of stability with a two-wheel device on ice, which caused a lot of road rash... the sales of 2-wheelers vanished when 3-wheelers came out.

Turned out the 3-wheel variation, for the less than careful, was more likely to break bones, including necks. The death and injury rate for those beasts was horrendous. (I bought one cheap, from a guy whose wife had broke her arm on it.)

But 2-wheelers weren't the thing everybody let their little kids loose on, and for some reason 3 and 4 wheelers encourage people to sacrifice their 8-14 year olds on a regular basis. That's a religous rite that I have never been able to understand, and it just bothers me ever time I see a too young kid driving recklessly.

Yep, you are correct. It pains me to see the kids running around town on a 600+- lb. four wheeler (or even snowmachine) at full speed with other kids sitting on the machine's racks.

Every year, some kid gets killed or severely injured because the "parents" let them ride even though it is illegal now for under 16 drivers.

The free rider class is the best option for anyone that is buying one and new to the machine.
