Default A Very Cool Site!

At http://www.360north.org/

It's an excellent tv program on channel 70 on Dish Network...but the site has a live feed to watch programs. Has lot's of historical shows with tons of black and white photo's and footage. Lot's of wildlife programs and historical films on commercial fishing dating back to mid 1800's which also can be found at Nautical Media: Marine Safety Training, Boater Education, Maritime History on DVD and VHS.

Told a friend of mine I was on an Alaska Forum and she mailed me that AlaskaMen Magazine. Woo hoo! We need a bunch of you guys to visit Phoenix in the Winter. It's 7 to 1 Females to males over 40 down here. Or maybe I just need to see if I still have my South Dakota tolerance for below zero weather...

OK first question. (of many I'm sure) I have read the posts way back suggesting that a vehicle have a 195 or 205 degree thermostat installed for the cold regions. What other modifications might ya'll suggest to make a vehicle more reliable in the extreme colds (or any other peculiarities in AK) I am shopping around for a good used Jeep cherokee or grand cherokee I need to get out of my 95 escort wagon with the 200+ thousand miles on it. I miss my wagoneer anyway. I hardly ever use 4wd but it is nice to know if I slip off the road I can use it to get back on my way.

How do batteries fare. My car has been starting sluggish at the mere 0 degree weather. have though maybe hooking a slave cable hook up inside the vehicle would allow you to easily connect a battery that could be taken inside with you at night or maybe even at your destination. But dunno if that is really neccessary.

Any suggestions in boots and assorted outdoor gear for AK. And buying tips things to watch for? they can't all be as good as advertised.

I'll back with more specific gear questions when I'm not so tired and thinking poorly. Later folks

I have an Optima Yellow Top Battery. When it was close to -40 below the last couple weeks, it had no problem at all.
