Yep, it's always good to check the language on those "day" passes... are they only good for that date (regardless of time), or are they good for an entire 24 hours. Here in WA, some of the stamps are only good for the date, not 24 hours... a buddy of mine got nailed last year for this very technicality!

That is what I did when I moved to Alaska. The day I crossed the Alaska border (May 4, 1991) I shelled out the full annual non-resident hunting and fishing license, with a king stamp (no tags). Beyond being able to fish and hunt, I wanted that official document to indicate the day I entered Alaska with the intention of permanent residency. That made the extra expense worth it.

I did not hunt or fish in 1992 from January through May, so I just waited until May 21, 1992 to buy my first annual Alaskan resident fishing and hunting license.
