I downed a bowl of rosehip soup, took a hot shower, and am feeling better. Less coughing and it no longer hurts. Now drinking blueberry tea. I want breakfast but can't make up my mind what to have.

Go Viking's!

I assume rosehips is a native plant? I can't wait to learn all of these neat things when I get up there! Nothing is better than wild food!

Rosehips are the fruit of rose plants. They're the little reddish things you see after bloom season is over. They contain a pretty good amount of Vitamin C. They make okay wine; lots of people use them in teas and jellies.

Damn it, I used to have a really good book about gathering/cooking/preserving wild foods in Alaska and I was going to post a link for it but can't remember the name and can't find anything doing a search that rings a bell. I know I've seen it though in several of the small town Alaskan libraries I've been in; might be worth looking for it when you get settled.

It's driving me nuts that I can't recall the book's name; it burned up in a fire several years ago. Had the best berry pie recipes. I also got my hands on some notes from an old journal from one of the Hudson's great great aunts from when they settled in the upper Su; it was all recipes using local game and berries.
