Keep in mind you will be on 2 lane roads most of the way. You may see a lot of road repairs going on. Winter is not nice to the road. You might not get as far as you planned each day.

Thanks warpt, I remember you saying that before and yes we plan on going around in those spots.

When you motel it, what's the average price you pay in the summer time? Any motels to stay away from?
We are in Wasilla as well. As Nephler said, if you need help just shoot me a PM or if you just want someone to meet and have lunch or dinner same thing, just shoot me an PM. We remember what it was like not knowing anyone here but that changed very quickly. Now we have a lot of very good people that we call friends!

In Fort Nelson tonight, I gotta say things are going really well. I'm cruising on the highway, since we got into BC we haven't seen a single cop on the road (only saw 2 or 3 in Alberta) so I've been clipping along at about 130 km/h. Reading ahead in the milepost though it appears that things get a lot more curvy, narrow and treacherous for the next two days. Averaging about 600 miles a day leaving plenty of time for rest and recovery for me, the wife, and the kids

Thanks for all the well wishes, we'll be there shortly!

Across the street from Fort Nelson Hotel, there is a restaurant that has chickens on the outside, there is good breakfasts here. I forgot the name of it though. About two hours up the highway you will run into construction after Testa River. There is good coffee there and pastries. Stop in Toad River and take pictures of you and the kids at the Toad wall, there's cutouts there of toads and moose and a musher. After you pass Toad River keep an eye out for Caribou, Elk, Dall Sheep, Bears, Moose, and Buffalo, not necessarily in that order. You will see each of these tomorrow though. In Toad, they have great soft serve ice cream and the largest collection of baseball caps in the world. If you have time, stop in at Laird River Hot Springs, worth the stop. About 20 miles south of Watson Lake there is a gas station that is clearly marked "20 cents cheaper than Watson Lake gas." Top off here.

Darn gas stations, when towing this heavy boat recently, depending on where we tanked, the mileage shown by the on-board computer would vary from 8mpg to almost 14mpg. Generally speaking all the stations along the highway had crappy gas.

We'll be heading up the western route from Seattle in a couple weeks. I'm keeping an eye out on all these travel posts so I know what delays to expect. I've made the trip a couple of times, but it never fails that there is a wash out or forest fire just when I need to go through

I second Warpt's suggestion to stop in at Laird... it's so nice to soak in the hot springs after a few day sof hard driving. Plus the kids will get a kick out of all the dragonflies.
