You need to remember that less than 30% of the population in Bethel is white. Most are Alaska Native. If you really want to increase your rate of acceptance, try getting used to fish head stew, agutuk or moose tongue. At least that way you'll be referred to as a gussak less frequently.
Bethel is really a very friendly place once you get to know folks.

Everyone is welcome in Alaska, I am sorry that your race would even have been a concern in your life. I almost feel like a minority in Anchorage having blonde hair. What kind of work do you do, jmrmode? I just can't imagine moving to a rural Alaska community without visiting it first.

and the last I heard the population is around about 6000 to 7000
So that's about 600 to 700 brothers/sisters up here....
and anyone of any color or race tries to "run you off" from anywhere...
