Blizzard Watch

Statement as of 4:23 PM AKST on February 07, 2010

... Blizzard watch remains in effect from Monday evening through
late Monday night along the coast...

A blizzard watch remains in effect from Monday evening through
late Monday night along the coast.

A strong weather front will move into the Bering Sea tonight and
approach southwest Alaska during the day on Monday. Snow will
begin to spread north across the region as northeast winds
increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph along the coast.
Blowing snow as a result of these winds combined with forecast
snowfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches may result in possible blizzard
conditions along the coast through late Monday night when the
frontal boundary finally passes through the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and/or
blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities.
This can lead to white-out conditions and make travel very
dangerous.

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a Blizzard
Warning... which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to 6 am akst
Tuesday. The blizzard watch is no longer in effect.

A strong weather front will move over the coast this afternoon. Snow will
begin to spread north across the region as northeast winds
increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph along the coast.
Blowing snow as a result of these winds combined with forecast
snowfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches may result in possible blizzard
conditions along the coast through late Monday night when the
frontal boundary finally passes through the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to white-out
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. All travel and
outdoor activity is strongly discouraged.
