The Cherokee was 10 miles on the AlCan HIghway on the way to Tok. Not sure if it still stands or if has changed names. I worked there when Gary owned it and when it was owned by Mark Adams. DH and I ran it for a few months until we realized that Mark's wife (sarah) was milking it for all it was worth and then some. WE pulled out while we could.

Good bakery at the IGA too.
I'm not sure I have heard of that. It must be newer. The Deli at the IGA in Delta was good. and the Birch Brothers is new to me as well. There was a PIzza Bus out on Nistler Road a few years back called the Snarling Grizzley. It was okay, very novel! LOL

The Diner is an institution! I dont care for Rick the owner (still?) as he is a sexist pig and but I loved Roy (Roy's Pawn Shop) who used to work his butt off for him.

I think that the Cherokee became Adam's Rib but they recently was sold and changed their name to Snow something.....the Delta Petro Wash is over by Sandlin's shop just south of the Steakhouse. When I moved back, the diner was owned by a different family. There was a story on the online version of the Delta Wind, also the archives would probably have a story about Adam's Rib selling.

It will happen sooner of later. The State began dividing areas into boroughs not too long ago. It has taken some time to reach Delta Junction but it's a matter of time now.

From what I understand, doesn't it have to be approved by the voters in Delta first?

I just talked to my son and he said the borough measure resulted in 92% voting no.

I've seen that map but it's a map of potential boroughs. It's not set in stone, and must be approved by the voters first.

Not really. The Sate can do it for them. Every borough is supposed to help paying for road maintenance, fire protection, and school among other things. In the case of Delta Junction and a few other areas, the creation of boroughs has been slow. The only option for delta Junction is to vote for whichever borough they want to annex to. Some boroughs have high property taxes, while others don't. In this case, if it was possible I would vote to annex my town to the one that has the lowest property taxes.

All depends on the number of city residents. But the bottom line is that if a town does not provide for services (school, etc.), it means that these services are being paid for by the State or neighboring boroughs.

Order and Notice of Incorporation Election for the Deltana Borough

According to this, Alaska Statute AS 29.05.110-29.05.120 states it must be held for an election. Delta does get funding from having federal properties within the boundaries such as BLM property. The main roads are state highways. I'd hate to see the issues going on in Delta that I read happening in the North Star Borough, that is one of the reasons why the residents love it so much there.

THere are rumors floating around that the reason why parts of Alaska are not in a borough is because the US never finished paying for it when it was bought from Russia.

You cannot tax something you dont own.
