So I've been reading on this forum for a month or two now, and I've really found myself going against the majority in here when it comes to political issues and some life things in general. It really has me worried that I won't fit in.

I'm a republican, I can't stand our president, the healthcare reform is a one way street to a socialistic America in my opinion. I DO like Sarah Palin, I love to hunt and fish, so naturally I'm completely against gun control. If someone spit in my food, I'd be really apt to find them when the time and place is right and kick their butt.

I believe in hard work, God, and being a gentleman to women. I have no problems with welfare, but I can't stand people who are too lazy to get off their butts and work, and would instead live off the government. I am disgusted by people who take the free road, and live a better life than those of us who struggle to work for what they have.

I do not get along with liberals very well at all. PETA and organizations like it make my skin crawl.

Politics and Religion. Two topics if not brought to work speed the happiness.

Don't worry about it. The forum is not a representation of Alaska politics. You will fit in.

Sarah Palin is not universally liked, but if she ran against Mark Begich, our current democratic senator she would mop the floor with him. Personally, I'm hoping that is what she does.

There are many more I's in Alaska than Rs or Ds, but in general, Alaska is a red state...but a little different. A red state that is a little more tolerant of the individual, no matter how idiocyncratic that individual is.

You will see a lot of PETA bumper stickers "People for Eating Tasty Animals" and "eat more moose, 10,000 wolves can't be wrong".

So while we have our token liberals, we treat them nicely.

Yeah, if you wanted to see a true representation of Alaskan political views, you should have read the comments to stories and letters to the editor in the Fairbanks Daily News Miner. That's where I first heard the People for eating of tasty animals....

Marty is correct. But if Marty is correct that means Kyle will not "fit in" as is. After all he comes from an intolerant red state (Oklahoma), and per Marty above, Alaskans are more tolerant of idiosyncrasies and treat liberals nicely.

Ergo, Kyle will have to undergo a conditioning camp and unlearn the red state intolerance before he can "fit in" within the Alaskan ethos.

Intolerance of others who don't share your beliefs is a problem in and of itself. For an officer of the peace, I'd imagine it could be even more problematic. You will reap what you sow.
