I have been in the ABQ area now for a few days and have a couple questions!

1. My nose keeps bleeding and my lips are falling apart!! How long does it take for your body to get used to the dryness? Or are dry lips/nose just a way a life with so little humidity?

2. We have done some exploring and for the most part its been easy to distinguish good parts of town from bad. What are some diffrences between the north east and north west though? Apartment prices seem to be higher in the north east area.

3. What is the bosque?? What does the word bosque mean exactly? lol

1. Buying a humidifier for a room in the house would help.

2. There tends to be more businesses in the north east area than in the north west. But the north west is growing a lot faster.

It took me a few months to finally get used to the altitude and dryness.

Bosque means forest or woodlands in Spanish. In the Southest it refers to the forest growing along the river or stream flood plains. See Bosque - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Chapstick or lip balm is your new best friend.

Humidifiers work, even if it's just in one room (I run mine during the day in the bedroom, it's too noisy to run at night). Also try using a saline spray/mist during the day, or a product like SinuCleanse or NeilMed (nasal rinses). Makes a HUGE difference. Drinking lots of water helps too.

If you want to save a little $, drive around the areas of town you like and look for "For Rent" signs. There are lots of little apartment units, duplexes and triplexes tucked around town (especially the NE part) and they tend to be a little cheaper than the apartment complexes.

My daughter has had nosebleeds since she was a toddler due to the dry air. It's worse during the spring with the dry windy days, but she still gets nosebleeds year-round on and off. Preventative maintenance helps. Her pediatrician suggested trying some KY jelly dabbed in the nose in the morning and before bed, but that didn't help. She then suggested a tiny tiny dab of Vaseline using the pinky finger. This is very small amount -- just enough to get your pinky a little moist. This does the trick when my daughter uses it consistently.

Beware though that Vaseline doesn't get absorbed by the body, so if you use too much, you can accidentally sniff it into your lungs which would be bad news. A tiny dab each day won't hurt you though.

The "bosque" around here is the area on both sides of the Rio Grande river where there are trees and shrub.

Apartments on the west side are generally newer as is the west side in general. The downside is crossing the river during rush hour heading east if you work on the east side of town. If that's not an issue then you get more bang for your buck on the northwest side. Avoid the southwest area (south of I-40).

1. Chapstick in your pocket and a water bottle in your hand. Always, for the first little bit.
2. Can't help with that, sorry.
3. To me, it always meant green and expensive, lol.

Most of your questions have been answered, but I just wanted to emphasize drinking lots of water. My mother-in-law falls apart too every time she visits here, but improves drastically when she drinks more water.

LOL

Are you in an air conditioned environment?
That is, NOT using a swamp cooler?
