ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —
An eighth Albuquerque Rapid Transit bus crash happened Monday afternoon in southwest Albuquerque.
The crash happened at Central Avenue and 52nd Street. This is the third reported crash at this intersection since the buses started running.
According to Alicia Manzano, a city spokesperson, a moped was making an illegal left turn and hit the ART bus.
The driver of the moped is OK but the passenger was not wearing a helmet and was taken to the hospital. The passenger is in stable condition. No ART passengers were injured.
The bus was not damaged and returned to its normal route.
Today I was in the left turn lane at Lomas and San Mateo (waiting to turn west). The car ahead of me made a left in front of a bus that was starting to move. I thought: that's not an ART bus! You are only supposed to try to drive into ART buses! Fortunately there was no accident. It wasn't that close, but close enough that I would not have made that left. I try not to take chances with buses.
ART was forced upon the residents without regard to the damage done to local businesses and adverse effects on city transportation. Now that the failures have become evident the city "leaders" instead of accepting responsibility place the blame on the recipients of their failures, going so far as to waste more taxpayer money by spending on television propaganda ads. This is typical of willfully out of touch "leadership" that is allowed to not care or be held responsible for their actions, using the ploy of making sure that their victims are a small enough minority to be out voted.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police have issued 98 warnings to drivers for crossing into or over the lanes dedicated for Albuquerque Rapid Transit buses as officers beef up patrols in the Central Avenue corridor where the system runs.
The warnings, issued in the past week, are in addition to 132 tickets handed out for other traffic violations, according to a news release issued by the city Thursday.
“We’re hoping the concentrated patrols along the corridor remind drivers they need to stay out of the ART lanes, turn left or U-turn only at traffic lights and always look over your shoulder when you plan to change lanes,” ABQ Ride Director Danny Holcomb said in the release. “It’s a safety issue, more than anything.”
Since starting service on Nov. 30, ART buses have been involved in 11 crashes as of Dec. 21. City representatives have attributed many of the collisions or minor scrapes to drivers turning left when they shouldn’t be.
“Albuquerque Police will start ticketing for ART lane violations on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020,” the city’s news release says. “Officers say anyone caught driving in the ART lanes or crossing over them to make a left turn could get at least an $80 ticket. It’s possible that some drivers committing both violations could get two tickets totaling $160.”
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A brawl on an ART bus left some passengers scrambling to get away and others jumping in to try to break it up.
That’s according to a passenger who says he recorded most of it. Passenger Mike Baca says he started rolling on a heated argument among ART passengers over a stolen backpack.
He says it happened Saturday afternoon, near the Central and Unser Transit Station. It escalated to the man in a black jacket throwing a punch, and then other people jumped in. Some joined in the fight and others trying to pull people apart.
Baca says minutes went by before the bus stopped in downtown and the people involved got off. “I’ll never ride the bus again. It was just something we wanted to see and try out,” Baca said.
News 13 asked APD if officers responded or if charges have been filed but have not heard back.

Not checking to make sure there is no oncoming traffic before making a turn or changing lanes is bad driving and negligence on the part of the drivers of these vehicles. Nevermind that they are breaking the law in the first place by making illegal turns, changing into forbidden lanes across solid lines and attempting turns without having the turn arrow.
It's amazing to me how anti-ART people like you can excuse this bad driving and illegal behavior based on your hatred of the project.
These dumb and entitled drivers are one of the biggest problems in this city. They are a shame and an embarrassment. More than that they are dangerous, they cause numerous crashes and fatalities each year. Yet they somehow are being turned into folk heros by the rabid anti-ART crowd like you. smdh
It will be interesting to see what happens when the free rides end.
We should know in about a month.
