Thanks guys, but that's why I'm asking here: I only want one bottle to keep in the fridge. And, around $10 is perfect. somewhere around semi-sweet to sweet is ideal. I don't have time to taste many wines. I need something NOW.

Red wines aren't what one would call "sweet" unless you're referring to "more fruity" which would point towards a Merlot probably. Check out Columbia Crest, Fetzer or Blackstone. All three are usually in most stores with any kind of a wine selection, and retail for under $10.

While it's better to have a plan and go to a wine merchant with one's "druthers", I'll throw out two. The first is a light, fruity pinot noir from Chile, Pepperwood Grove. Unlike Carneros or Russian River pinots, with a very nice cherry cola and mineral note. Bonus, it's less than $10. The second red is definitely sweet and low alcohol, and while it's been several years since I had some, it's the first red I drank in earnest (back when Bon Jovi was "Bon who?"). Riunite lambrusco is a slightly sweet frizzante red, as good in a Solo cup as a wine glass. And what makes it the choice of college students everywhere is its price, around $5. It's not the stuff of wine snobbery, but it's a great fun wine.
AGAIN we agree Nita!! I had ALWAYS drank only whites, but I recently found Malbec! So sometimes I'll have that, depending on where I am and what I'm eating. (oh, and menage a trois is great too!)

A white zin would probably be the best choice if you want to stay around $10 and want to just keep it in case someone wants a glass.

HHMMMM ok haters guess I was correct.
OP go with this for sweet
Beringer White Zin.
OR
If you truly want to stick with the RED theme go with this
Bogle Zinfandel
Kenwood Zin
Campus Oaks Old Vine Zin
I second Menage a trois, red or white are both reliably good.
