Just talking to a friend this morning and this was brought up and I often take extra doses of potassium when I'm feeling down. Yesterday, I took 500mg and got a nice lift. Also avocados are high in potassium. Low Sodium V8 has a high dose of potassium...love to drink that stuff as I get a good lift.
A story...my friend is asked to travel home cuz her mom was going downhill fast.
Not being able to get out of bed for 3 weeks in their Conneticut home, my friend looked at all her mom's
meds.
"Where's ur potassium?" There was none.
So my friend crushed up some pills put it in her mom's juice.
Next thing you know you had to stop her mom from walking around her house pulling weeds.
After my mom had a quintuple bypass, she had to be rehospitalized for several days because her potassium levels were off. She was taking several new prescriptions which might have caused her to deplete the potassium.
Interesting because ever since she has been physically stabilized, she has been severely depressed. She tried to fight it but now started taking antidepressants on top of everything else.
Good advice jammin but for those of us with end stage kidney failure potassium is a no no..
Didnt know about potassium levels in V8,thanks for the heads up, i'll check those nutritional labels a little more closely.
A good friend put me onto the potassium mystery as she deals with CFS/ME, talk about malaise...she will from time to time take 500-700mg potassium gluconate and get a good lift. I do t his from time to time but I don't have her issue but can get fatigued...I do eat avocados. I had my MD give me potassium tabs in the rehabs but a mere 99mg was all she would go for....

Well, if you know this, then you know what NOT to do. I drink the low sodium V8 as it's high in potassium, what a lift I get when I drink it. I often dilute my juice with some water, makes my V8 go further.

I had a friend who would pass out and when they got her to the ER she was tanked out on potassium..she had to do IV's of potassium. BP meds pull out magnesium and I don't know about other meds.
