the people of Central America, are they the same people? I know each country has its own history but someone born in El Salvador and someone born in Honduras, is the only real difference the country they were born in? In this case I am only speaking about the mestizo population. Both countries have a high percentage in this group, but what about the other Central American countries nearby? All the way down to Costa Rica. I took Panama off the list since many consider themselves South American and it was once part of Colombia. Let's start from Guatemala down to Costa Rica.

Costa Rica's population looks a lot more like Spain than its neighbors. Much like Spain the mestizos have mostly immigrated from other countries in Latin America.

What about Belize, the only country in Central America English is the official language. For over 100 years the country was called British Honduras until 1973. It has many cultures and languages with British colonial history. From 1862 to 1973, its name was British Honduras.

They all share a lot in common being that they were united politically and culturally to Mexico from colonial times and independence. They also formed their own Central American federation. Costa Rica has been the most stable of traditional Central American historic nations and in some ways differentiates itself from others.

You could argue that they are the same but that they are also different. They can relate to each other on the basis of history but they have unique and distinct customs of each that makes one unique and distinct from the other.

The vast majority of Central Americans are mestizos. Guatemala is the only Country that has a large Native indigenous population. Belize is an English speaking nation and has a large black population. The rest of the caribbean coast of Central America also has a significant population of black people. But most Central Americans are mestizos.

Most Central Americans speak spanish with a similar accent. The Guatemalan and Costa Rican accents are a bit different, but Salvadorians, Hondurans and Nicaraguans speak almost the same way.

Food is similar in most countries, varies from place to place but in essence its the same. Only on the caribbean does it change.
